Docents / Friends of CHS

Looking for a Few Good Docents!

We are doing trainings this fall to add new docents to our enthusiastic, dedicated group of men and women who volunteer at Coronado Historic Site.  Without these ladies and gentlemen, many of our visitors would be unable to view the wonderful paintings inside the kiva at Kuaua Pueblo!

Are you interested in working with school groups?  We have school children visiting here all the time, and we need several people to help with our school tours.   Retired teachers, here is a way for you to participate in a hands-on educational program without being tied down to a classroom!   We also do outreach into schools.

Other needs include historic preservation (working with adobe) as well as maintenance of many kinds on buildings and grounds.  Are you a gardener?  We need dedicated people to work in our native gardens for the next growing season!

Did I mention that we have some awesome educational trips and lectures for our docents?  Prior groups have visited Hopi and Zuni, in addition to back-room tours of local museums!  We have a wonderful time.

If you’re interested in volunteering your time and energies at (in my opinion) the most beautiful place in Albuquerque, send us an email at  education@kuaua.com , or call our main desk at (505) 867-5351.  Ranger Annie will get back with you to discuss different opportunities we have for volunteers.

  1. Just ran across your web site. I joined the Friends recently and can volunteer on a regular basis once a week or so for 3 to 4 hours at a time. Am somewhat handicapped.
Am a retired minster, served a Native American church in the East (Nanticoke) and also
served as a work leader as part of our VIM program on the Navajo Reservation. Also
attended a program concerning Native American culture at Tempe in Phoenix as part of my preparation. Have visited and read about the Pueblo’s, Chaco, etc. could work as a Docent or in the gift shop.

Let me know if you could use my assistance in one of your programs.

    • Palmer, welcome to the Friends of Coronado! For our volunteers, working here is really a labor of love, and we also have a wonderful time. I am sure that there is a place if you are interested in volunteering! I suggest that you give Annie Campagna a call at our main number, 505-867-5351. Annie coordinates the docent trainings. She works a Sunday-Thursday schedule. We are looking forward to meeting you! : ) Sharon Walker, Instructional Coordinator
