Flicker in Winter

Flicker in Winter

One morning this week, when I was walking down the sidewalk to open up, I heard a sharp, threatening chirping noise coming from the garden.  When I stopped, it came again, and then again!  Then, I heard a tap, tap, tap, and on the wooden fence rail, there was a flicker.  This guy is a large sized woodpecker who lives here through the winter.  He’s a handsome bird, and he is definitely territorial!   (Photo Credit, Jack Ellis)
