Monster Sunflowers

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Over the last week there has been an increase in the insect activity in the gardens. The squash bugs have begun to spread from the squash plants to the corn and beans, although they have been avoiding the gourds and sunflowers. The sunflowers have continued to grow, and the tallest is now over 8 feet. The sunflower seeds are beginning to become well formed, and we should have a plentiful harvest. The corn ears are becoming well developed as well, and the stalks are beginning to dry from the bottom up. We are very excited to begin harvesting the corn, but because it is a popcorn variety we need to allow it to dry before we remove it from the stalk.
