Ranger John is our own personal Snake Wrangler. John has grown up in the Parks system, and is no stranger to picking up strange creatures. John’s Father would keep snakes (including rattlesnakes) in the family refrigerator in a paper bag to sedate them in order to give demonstrations. When the snake gets cold they are less active and less likely to bite or become aggressive. The snake that John has caught in the photographs above is a bull snake which has adapted to resemble the bull snake, and they also eat rattlesnakes. The day the photographs were taken John actually caught two bull snakes in the ruins. Kids (and adults) don’t try this at home! John only pick up creatures when he knows exactly what they are and how to handle them properly.
